AUP Online

On October 8, 2008, the Broadband Data Improvement Act (P.L. 110-385) mandated that the Internet safety policy adopted by school districts shall include educating students about appropriate online behavior, including interacting with other individuals on social networking web sites and in chat rooms as well as cyber bullying awareness and response.

AUP Online is an instructional program that requires no staff development, is self contained, interactive, with electronic AUP document sign off.  This program provides a cost effective method to comply with the CIPA mandated instructional requirement, and provide much needed instruction to students as they participate in their online world. The program also addresses essential 21st century skills.

DOCUMENTATION: Individual student participation is time/dated for CIPA compliance as well as discipline and risk management purposes.

THE CURRICULUM: AUP online  instruction includes:

  • Internet safety and the safe use of social networking
  • Bullying, including cyberbullying, how to recognize it and what to do
  • Credibility and verification of sources
  • Ethical/social responsibility including attribution and plagiarism
  • How to share equipment and software at school
  • Acceptable Use Agreement sign off
  • Time/dated documentation of compliance
  • Continuing updated content to address current instructional issues

THE TECHNOLOGY: The program is based in Flash which allows us significant flexibility to include both professional level animation and the immersive interactive elements that this generation of digital natives have come to expect.

Currently any device that supports the Adobe Flash player can use AUP online. This includes Windows Computers, Mac Computers and Flash-compatible phones and tablets. Recognizing the increasing importance of mobile devices in the classroom, we will also be releasing device-native versions that will work on iOS devices (iPads and iPhones) and Android devices.

All communication between the application and server is encrypted using industry standard SSL (Secure Socket Layer). The server itself is protected by both operating system and router-level packet filtering.

THE COST: This program looks expensive but it is not.  It may be cheaper than copying costs for free lessons. Contact Lersun for a quote.
