Content of Lessons by Grade Level

AUP online (approximately 10 minutes)for grades K-1includes:

  • Use of technology at school
  • Not sharing access codes
  • How to be safe with e mail  and what to do if e mail is uncomfortable

We recommend that for K students, completion of the program be done near the end of the school year and that either the parents work with their children at home or teachers give the students some support in a classroom setting.   By the middle of first grade, the students need much less support to complete the program.

AUP online for grades 2-3 (approximately 15 minutes)includes:

  • Use of technology at school
  • Not sharing access codes
  • What personal information is and what not to share with others
  • How to be safe with e mail and phone messaging and social networking
  • What to do if message is from someone you do not know
  • Introduction to bullying/cyber bullying

AUP online for grades 4-5 (approximately 60 minutes)includes:

  • What to do when sharing technology at school
  • Internet safety and social networking
  • Bullying/cyber bullying,  how to recognize it and what to do
  • Digital literacy, digital citizenship and development of ethical and social responsibility, including attribution and plagiarism
  • Acceptable Use Agreement sign off and electronic documentation of compliance

 
AUP online for grades 6-7-8 (approximately 2 hours)includes:

  • Rules about sharing technology at school
  • Keeping access codes secure and personal information private
  • Digital literacy, credibility of internet information, triangulation to verify
  • Respecting the work of others, attribution and plagiarism
  • Social networking, digital citizenship, safety, dangers of sexting
  • Bullying/cyber bullying behaviors and what to do (target, bystander)
  • Acceptable Use Agreement sign off and electronic documentation of compliance

 
AUP online for grades 9-12 (approximately 60 miutes)includes an animated version recommended for use at grade 9 and 10, as well as an “advanced version” which gives students the option of seeing the whole lesson or just reviewing the content for AUP sign off. Districts can choose which options to offer their students.  In both the content includes:

  • Review of basic rules when using school technology
  • Digital literacy, digital citizenship and credibility of internet information
  • Respecting the work of others, attribution, plagiarism and cheating
  • Digital citizenship, safety and social networking, dangers of sexting
  • Bullying/cyber bullying behaviors and what to do (target, bystander)
  • Acceptable Use Agreement sign off  and electronic compliance documentation
